At Pounamu Queensland, we believe every taonga & piece of jewellery should carry a story of authenticity, respect, and exceptional craftsmanship.
All of our Pounamu and precious gemstone jewellery is handcrafted right here in our studio by resident carver Dion Barclay. Transforming raw stone from slab to finished treasure, Dion draws on years of dedicated practice to create unique, high-energy pieces built to last generations. We work strictly with 100% authentic, certified, and ethically sourced Aotearoa Pounamu alongside hand-selected natural gemstones from around the world.
To complement our studio creations, we proudly partner directly with trusted businesses in Aotearoa to bring you genuine, beautifully crafted bone and wood taonga. From our workshop to your hands, our commitment to quality, sustainability, and cultural integrity is at the heart of everything we offer.

As a proud Māori of Ngāti Irakehu and Ngāi Tahu descent, I have been surrounded by the art of bone, stone, and wood carving for as long as I can remember. Growing up with a father who is a renowned taxidermist, working with raw materials was second nature to me from an early age.
That childhood curiosity quickly grew into a lifelong passion for creating with my hands. Deeply connected to Aotearoa, my years spent hunting and navigating the landscapes of the South Island gave me an intrinsic respect for natural materials and the traditional foundations of crafting taonga.
After years of honing my craft, I now specialize in hand-carving custom Pounamu, as well as transforming precious gemstones from around the world into one-of-a-kind treasures. With every piece I shape, I aim to pay homage to my ancestors and carry forward the strength, story, and traditions of my Tīpuna.
